His search for an image and meaning of heaven, for the safety of a warm home after long wandering, his love and respect towards everything created is mirrored in his work. Creating a piece of art for him is like meditating on life and its Creator, as well as feeling like a child at play. His colors are strong and bright, not copying nature as we see it with our eyes, but with imagination.
He lives and works in Duga Resa, Croatia. His art studio is in more than a hundred years old wooden house, typical traditional local domestic architecture. Alongside with art studio there is his private small ethno collection, open for public. Collecting object from our past is one of his passion, as well.

Vladimir Bašić Šoto is a professional artist from Croatia. He was born in 1953., in Postojna, Slovenia where he spent his first years and then moved to Duga Resa, Croatia. Throughout his childhood he was spending a great deal of his free time painting and drawing. Until he saw a movie with one of the character being professional painter, he was not aware that this could be a real job. Then he made a decision to be an artist.
In 1981. he officially became one. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, Croatia, in the department of painting, class of prof. Raul Goldoni and prof. Nikola Reiser. Since his graduation, he has staged in a number of one-man and group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad.
During the war years in Croatia (1991-1995) he has been working as an art teacher in primary school. He still tells stories about those children, his pupils.
